Friday Fun ~ 10 Random Things About Me

Do I dare? Will you still want to visit if I tell all? I guess 10 random things is not all, but it’s still reveling!

1. I love working outside in my yard and garden. I can be creative with flowers and old things. Old things like pots and wood boxes anything I can find to bring “personality” to the yard. I guess you know I love Pinterest.

2. I love to rearrange the furniture in my house in all the rooms. I had a friend come the other day and she said it is never the same when she comes over. I was shocked! Really, I didn’t think I was that obsessed about it.

3. I love deep conversation! I despise making small talk, or talking about the weather as I call it.

4. I like my house clean and tidy or I feel tired and unproductive. I don’t vacuum as I leave the house or anything, but everything should have it’s place.

5. My favorite stores are Lowe’s and Home Depot because I’m always wanting to fix, create, or redo something.

6. I love going to church with my family every Sunday morning and it’s an extra pleasure when my two married daughters and their families are there too!

7. I love going out to dinner with my husband and sitting in the outside patio area and getting into deep conversation. This does not happen often enough.

8. I am an information junkie! I love to learn. Don’t tell me what I “can’t” do… tell me what I “can” do!!

9. I was a hair stylist for 10 years, but all I really wanted was to be married and be a stay at home mom.

10. I hate shopping for clothes. I’m thankful that every so often someone gives me bags of clothes to go through. They are always just what I need and much nicer than I would have picked out!

And… a bonus. I love earrings! I have a rack full of them… this makes me “very” happy!

30 Day Ultimate Blog Challenge!

Teri & Daughter ErynThis picture is two years, five months old. I do not like getting my picture taken and it only happens when one of our children get married and sometimes we do Christmas cards. I have a lot of things to work on during the next 30 days and a picture of me will be one of them!

I’m supposed to have a picture of me, and only me, on all my websites and programs. It’s a branding thing and I want to get it right! I spent about 40 minutes trying to crop one and “no” that did not work, I couldn’t get my husbands ear out of the picture… sigh.

Tomorrow I’ ll put my makeup on “special” and see if my daughter can get a good shot, but of course it will have to meet my approval… it could very well take awhile.

I can just imagine how it will go.  My daughter will be patient for about five tries and 5 minutes. I better be on my best behavior or she’ll just walk off… ahh, who could blame her. What a thankless job, photographing your mother! Why is getting a personal photograph taken so awful?

What’s your excuse…

Winding Down or was that Winding Up?

No post for weeks! And I have so much to say…and no time to get it in print.  I home-school and things are winding down, trying to get finished up on all our subjects. We will be doing a few things like math facts, journals and read books through the summer, so I’ve been getting that in place.

My husband and I just finished up planting the garden so I need to get grass clippings around all my plants to help keep the moisture in and the weeds out! And, my brother dropped off four loads of rocks  for finishing up the rock wall on the lower lawn and making a new one around our “someday barn area”.

Ah the barn… will it ever get started? We keep changing our minds on design and if we should do it ourselves as opposed to having it done. Oh, and the colors, now that has given me nightmares. I don’t want it to stand out but blend in with the landscape.  I look at it out my kitchen window so it can’t be yellow. There are only a few shades of yellow I like.

Picky? Um… yes. It  will be there forever. Should we even be doing this? What if my husband loses his job, which they keep saying could happen because of downsizing. However, we are starting a business and the barn is very important. We decided to keep on going.   The barn is in year one of our five year plan.

We believe this is the path that was set before us and we will press on.  I think Winding Up is about to happen. Oh… did I mention the bricks I have to put under the pergola, bark for flowerbeds, more furniture and order and hang mirrors for the bridal room of our wedding facility, work on my new website, you get the idea.

Writing will be hit and miss for the summer as I am working on all my projects. I am taking before and after pictures to share along the way. What does your summer plans look like?

Winding Up,

Teri :~)

A Brides Best Gift – Sewing Machine

I believe a sewing machine is another bride, “Best Gift”. There are so many simple things you can do to spruce up a new home, add to your wardrobe, etc., inexpensively if you have a sewing machine. And, by sewing things yourself you can get just the right colors and design for your project.

I know this seems like an expensive item and it is. But… as I’ve shared before, go in with other family members to purchase this Best Gift item. Most people would love to know what to get the bride and even more excited to pitch in on something that will be loved, used, and cherished for years.

Our oldest daughter left home with a Janome DC2010 that was purchased from “The Top Stitch” our local fabric store. It was purchased for about $500.00. She loves it!  It’s a great machine for a beginner or intermediate seamstress and can be used for anything: crafts, clothing and other household items.  It’s so fun to go to her house and see the things she has done with some fabric and her machine.

I taught my girls to sew while they were growing up. However, it’s easy to get into an adult sewing class. Most shops that sell machines have beginning sewing classes. Don’t let not knowing how to sew hold you back if you think it’s something you just might enjoy. Plus, why throw out a piece of clothing if all it needs is a simple repair? My machine has saved me lots of money over the years.

Eryn’s friend Hannah even came over and used it to sew a baby blanket for one of her friends. It’s a very purposeful gift (oh how I love purposeful)  that you can have a lot of fun with by yourself, and with others. My girls and have talked about taking a sewing project workshop class at our local sewing  store, The Top Stitch. They have the cutest projects to do.  And… Carrie, the owner, is as sweet as they come.

This hasn’t happened yet, but it will. We are currently doing something else once a month together (Heritage Makers), I’ll share on that later. Getting together with my married daughters has been such a blessing! I’m so thankful they want to hang out with me. :)

Are you planning a get-together with your married daughters or maybe daughters-in-law? I hope so, they need us and I know I love to spend time with them.

So,  get this “Best Gift” and stay connected!
